Charities

Tart House was formed at 71 Holmfield Road to provide refreshments for those on the trail. One of the first charities they supported by generously donating their profits was the Bone Cancer Research Trust. Liane Ashberry, a friend to the Art House organisers, had tragically lost her young daughter Ella to bone cancer in 2009.  Consequently this charity is close to the hearts of many within the community and to Art House.  Liane had great musical talent and performed her songs, written for and about Ella, in the garden at Tart House with proceeds going to the BCRT and the LRI Teenage Cancer Unit.  A dedicated fundraiser and a brilliant community worker, Liane lost her battle with depression in 2015. She is much missed.

Tart House continues to support the BCRT and has also donated many times over the years to Mind for their work towards better mental health. Mind fights for better support and information for those living with mental health problems so they get the help they need,  locally and nationally.

Alzheimer’s Research UK is another cause close to the hearts of those involved in Art House; Nancy’s husband Huw was affected at a young age. This illness touches lives everywhere and it is essential to fund greater knowledge and understanding. Committed to finding a cure through scientific research, Alzheimer’s Research UK have made significant breakthroughs since they were founded in 1992.  Last year, following the death of her mother after a battle with dementia, Katarzyna Klein was honoured that Tart House chose to donate a proportion of their proceeds in her memory.

In recent years we have been joined by food and drink providers Gelato Village and Binary Bytes, who have also made contributions from their profits to the Art House charities.
